I guess if you aren't in our immediate families, the name of our shop might be random and meaningless to you unless you've read the one sentence blurb I wrote on our about page. A year and a half later, I thought I'd take a minute to tell you the story behind the name... I think it's a pretty good one.
Dusty and I have been together for almost 11 years, married for 7.

A year or so into dating, Dusty was talking to my uncle and Granddaddy about some old 50s construction projects in San Diego and mentioned his great uncle, George Riha, had built them (Lake Murray Dam in particular for any of you San Diegans). My uncle immediately freaked and told Dusty that Dorothy Riha was his GODMOTHER. Dusty's great aunt was my uncle's godmother. Yes, this is a little hard to follow. No, we are not related.

Over time, we put together more of the pieces and realized that our grandparents were REALLY good friends in the 50s but that after some family tragedies, moves, kids, marriages, etc., they just lost touch.

We found old photos of different family members of ours together and even recently turned up a home video from Dusty's grandma's first baby shower and my grandma was in the video! My Great Aunt Libby did plays with Dusty's Grandma Marie and they all attended social functions and parties together frequently.

When I got pregnant with our son, we decided to open up this shop with the idea that it was a partnership between the two of us since we do pretty well partnering in life too;) Since we love each other and we love our families, we decided to honor that love by keeping the name in the family.
Gunn is Dusty's Grandma Marie's last name, which she changed after losing her husband, Dick Riha, and remarrying. Swain is my Grandmommy's maiden name, which I've always loved and found it a shame that the name didn't carry on since her only brother was killed in WWII. So we honor our families and that longtime connection between them with Gunn & Swain.
And now a couple of childhood photos of us just because.
If you follow my personal Instagram, this guy might look familiar. Our son is basically Dusty's twin.
Dusty's dad opened a guitar shop in Leucadia (now in Oceanside) right after Dusty's mom got pregnant with him. So I guess pregnancy makes us entrepreneurial!
Here I am modeling a Mexican peasant dress. Duh.
