Earth Day is April 22nd and we're gearing up with 5 easy ways to detox your daily routine to make mama earth happy.
1. Skip The Dryer + Air Dry Your Laundry
My friend Jes of Dazed But Amazed is the queen of making air drying laundry look dreamy. Even if you don't have an ocean view and a sea breeze to dry your duds, set up a spot in your garage or patio for drying. You can start small and select certain pieces until you get the hang of it. Once dry, freshen up your laundry with a spritz of our Dear Dream Crystal Aura + Home Mist.
2. BYOB | Bring Your Own Bags
Here in San Diego, most stores charge you for a plastic or paper bag at checkout. I know a lot of cities do this now and I love it because it forces you to remember to bring a bag. I love keeping these Baggu Tote Bags in my purse because they fold up into their own little pouch and they fit a ton of stuff. Plus they're super cute.
3. Quit Your Coffee Cup Addiction
From Carry Your Cup: If you buy one cup of coffee or tea in a disposable cup every day, you’ll end up creating about 23 lbs of waste in one year. That site has all kinds of other alarming info about disposable cup waste. Keep a cute cup at your office or in your car along with a set of utensils and a pack of reusable straws. If you have to get a disposable cup at the coffee shop, say no to the lid and straw if you aren't in your car so you can cut down on the waste.
4. Clean Up Your Beauty Product Game
Did you know that the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938? And that Europe has banned 1300 chemicals from personal care products, while the US has only partially banned 30. Not cool. These stats came from one of my favorite natural makeup companies, Beautycounter. Here on our site, I do my best to source some of my favorite self-care + beauty products like natural face masks, essential oil blends, soap and lotion. Swap out as many of your beauty products as you can for cleaner, more natural options.
5. Exercise Your Green Thumb
Plants clean the air we breathe and can even make you more productive at work! Grab a cute pot and get planting! Bonus points if you can keep your greenery alive for longer than a month! But really, you can do it! Succulents, cacti, snake plants and philodendron are all pretty low maintenance. Head to your local nursery and ask them what plants they have that will be the hardest for you to kill and start there if you're black thumb-prone.
